"Let's Weave It Out"

GOOD   WEAVE   VS.   BAD   WEAVE

As African American women remain the leading consumers of a nearly 9 billion dollar a year hair  industry, the idea of good and bad always find themselves at odds.  Many women consider extensions, weaves and wigs a gift from God.  Some women are die-hards to wearing naturally healthy hair.  Given the freedom to go beyond your natural hair limitations makes alot of women's envy dreams come to life with style choices that are limitless.  As true reality sets in, we understand that beauty runs deeper than the skin.  We hope to clear up from a professional point of view what makes a weave good or bad.  I found a perfect salon center representing healthy hair care in areas of styling, designing and maintenance to use as a true basis to gather my data.   After the hair therapist at LaJoyce's conducted interviews with 35 African American women in the salon therapy center who wear weaves or extensions on a regular basis, they reported some very interesting data.

10 Characteristics of a good weave:

1.   The weave last longer than 2 months.
2.   Track or weft additions are never seen or exposed.
3.   Scalp Treatment before weave installation.
4.   Weave system comes with an at-home maintenance prescription.
5.   Quality of hair being used is "Premium Grade".
6.   Bonding system being used is undetectable.
7.   Can go swimming.
8.   Costs $300.00 to $500.00
9.   Weaving system comes with an every 2 or 3 week tighten up maintenance schedule.
10. Makes the woman feel confident, look naturally beautiful,  and boost self-esteem.

10 Characteristics of a bad weave:

1.   Less than 1 week after installation tracks or wefts are coming out and hair is shedding.
2.   Always choosing a cheaper grade of hair. Poor hair quality allows for tangling and matting.
3.   No at-home prescription or maintenance schedule.  Cannot use styling irons and style is non-dimensional.
4.   Can't go swimming.
5.   Style of weave system does not blend well with the face of the woman wearing the system.
6.   Looks like it's a weave!  Yes, you can tell.  Weaving system has no personality.  Not enough hair used and can see wefts.
7.   Bulky braids are detected as foundation base.  Makes the weave system ride like peacock.
8.   No pre-scalp conditioning or treatments before installing weave system.
9.  Glue is used as a bonding method for the weaving system.
9.   Hair & scalp damage done while wearing system or while removing system improperly.
10. Wear weaving system longer than 2 months at a time without allowing time for scalp to breathe.
